Site Purpose

Your company provides products and services. How will your website integrate?

The right website can generate sales by giving the customer confidence that yours is a company that is worth doing business with and you offer the right product for them.

In many cases it will be there first point of contact. They will be looking for information and assurance. It is the job of the web designer to provide the format for this.

Listed below are some examples of a sites purpose.

Introduce your company. (Brochure Site)
Provide an overview presentation of your companies general practice, key selling points (what makes you different and better than the competition), how a customer can do business with you and how they can contact you.

Catalogue of Products and Services
Provide product details, drawings, pictures, examples of work provided and other content and information applicable to your business and your customers requirements. Pricing can also be included as more information but the purpose of the site is to generate leads, contacts, brochure and catalogue requests.

Purchasing System (E-commerce)
A catalogue of products and services with a full purchasing option. This is often referred to as an 'e-commerce' site. A customer can complete a transaction using the website alone and does not always need to contact you in order for you to make a sale.

Information System
Business to business systems providing your customers and staff access to information that they would usually use traditional communication methods for. Examples are stock infomation, production lead times, training manuals, company procedures etc. The advantages of these systems are that they are available from almost any computer, anywhere at any time and reduce the need for telephone calls.

Integrated Systems
Usually intended to lower a business operating cost, this sort of sytem is usually reserved for highly competitive areas of internet shopping such as electronic goods retailers who are selling on a 'lowest cost wins' basis. As the website is used it generates all the information required for business accounts, despatch and returns, communications, marketing etc. Thus reducing admin costs. Larger providers of business software are beginning to wake up to the fact that all web trading companies can benefit from this sort of integration and are developing their systems accordingly. This means we can all look forward to lower cost integration.
